At The Fresh Market, we are committed to offering quality foods with premium ingredients at a great value. As diet and health fads come and go, you may find that we are slower than some retailers when it comes to offering these trend items. That’s because we think it’s important to carefully examine our product selection and our tried and true recipes before making any changes to our product line. Being mindful of trends in healthy eating is important, and we try to offer a selection of items to accommodate our health-conscious customers.
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from customers in regards to our bakery selections:
Why aren’t all of your bakery items trans-fat free?
Trans-fats have certainly become a hot topic in health news and are one area that we are working diligently to address. Our Bakery is in the process of “reformulating” many of our recipes. We have found that many of today’s commercial “trans-fats free” or “low in trans-fat” recipes, which contain little or no trans-fats, are actually increasing saturated fats and cholesterol in the foods. We are carefully examining our recipes, because we don’t want to sacrifice one set of health issues for another. Currently, our sourdough breads, loaf breads, Artisan breads and most of our pound cakes are trans-fat free. We are working towards building our trans-fat-free product line and hope to have many of our products reformulated by the end of 2005.
What whole grain breads do you offer?
Our bakery offers a full line of whole grain baked goods. Have you tried our 100% Whole Grain Bread? Unlike many retailers who use only a percentage of whole grains in their bread, our bread is made with 100% whole grains.
Are your products gluten free?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat rye, oats and barley. Obviously, many of our whole grain offerings and bakery items do contain gluten. Because we prepare a large amount of scratch bakery products with flour, we are unable to guarantee that our products are 100% gluten-free. We encourage you to visit our grocery department for a selection of gluten-free products.
Do you offer Kosher products?
During specific Kosher holidays, we do offer a selection of kosher products in our bakery. Delivered from New York, our Kosher selections include Challah bread, Rugalachs, shortbread cookies, sponge cakes and Babkas.
Do you offer any low-carb products?
Most products that are made with whole grains or whole wheat typically consist of fewer carbs than products made with white flour. Some of our whole grain and whole wheat selections include Pumpernickel Bread, Sunflower Bread and 100% Whole Wheat Bread.
Do you offer sugar-free products?
We are pleased to offer a selection of sugar-free products that taste just as good - if not better - than their “with sugar” counterparts:
- No Sugar Added Pies: Our No Sugar Added Apple Pie is just as great as the original, and we dare you to taste the difference! In fact, the 2004 National Pie Championship Judges awarded our No Sugar Added Apple Pie with first prize. This pie is made from our golden buttery flaky piecrust, Northern Spy apples and just the right touch of goodness — just the way it should be. In addition, be sure to try our No Sugar Added Cherry Pie.
- No-Sugar Added Cheesecake: Just like the original, this decadent New York style cheesecake is baked in a traditional water bath and made from only premium ingredients.
- No Sugar Added Angel Food Cake: We think this angel food cake is just as good as the original. Try it topped with fresh berries and whipped cream!
Do you have any organic bakery items?
We are pleased to offer a variety of organic products, which includes: Pan Bianco, Pan Bigio, Peasant Rye, Onion Dill, Black Bean & Salsa bread and Sesame Semolina Breads.
