Hass Avocados

AvocadoIn the late 1920’s, a postman by the name of Mr. Rudolph Hass purchased a seedling tree and planted it in his orchard in La Habra Heights, California. This tree became the mother tree of Hass Avocados; every Hass Avocado in the world can trace its lineage to this tree. The Hass Avocado is a fruit and is distinctive for its skin that turns from green to purplish-black when ripe. It has pale green flesh and is very easy to peel. While there are dozens of varieties of Avocados, the Hass variety is by far the most favored due to its high oil content and full bodied, nutty flavor.

Preparation: Avocados are most popular for their use in guacamole but are delicious when added to salads and salsa. Oxidation (exposure to air) can cause Avocados to turn brown but you can delay this process by squeezing lemon or lime juice on the Avocado, adding the seed back into your guacamole and placing it in an air-tight container.
