Red CherriesProduce Tip

There are two main types of cherries- sweet and tart and both of varieties have relatively short seasons.  Sweet cherries are grown primarily in California and the Northwest, while tart cherries are grown in Michigan.

Sweet cherries are thought to have originated in Asia Minor around 70 B.C. In the 1600’s, English colonists brought sweet cherries to North America.

Cherry harvests begin in California in May and finish in June.  Washington cherry harvest begins in June and high elevation orchards stretch the season into September.

One of the most popular dessert fruits, cherries have also been recognized for their medicinal properties and are a good source of fiber and vitamin C.  Ranked in the top 20 of foods for concentration of antioxidants and melatonin, it’s no wonder cherries are often referred to as a ‘super food.’

Look for shiny, firm, plump fruits with fresh green stems still attached.  Refrigerate cherries for up to a week, remove the pits and freeze for up to a year.

NEW Coffee!

Over the past several months we have been working with our coffee roaster to develop new flavors and blends that we think our customers will enjoy, and we are very excited to be introducing 11 new coffees to our lineup.

Let us tell you about a few of our new favorites!

TFM Anniversary Blend – For an anniversary, we think you should pull out all the stops. So we asked our Roastmaster to create something worth celebrating. And our wish was granted. The Anniversary Blend is full and bold with dreamy hints of chocolate. If that doesn’t say happy anniversary, we don’t know what does.

Red Velvet- Some day soon, you will find yourself right in the middle of a Red Velvet kind of day. A day that needs something different. Something fabulous. And that’s when you’ll pour a cup of this decadent, creamy blend that’s just sweet enough to make you ask for a second cup.

Coconut Crème -It’s like a little island paradise in every cup.  This indulgent blend tastes like freshly toasted snowy white flakes of coconut. It’s such a splurge, you could call it dessert if you wanted to, or just call it to the breakfast table. What a way to start the day.

Nicaraguan Momotombo - If you were to try and pick these beans yourself, you’d need to climb to the height of Nicaragua’s  Momotombo volcano – navigating steep terrain and passing through banana plantations before finally reaching the special place that gives us this world famous coffee. This medium bodied brew is sweet, well-balanced and well worth the trip.
